Natural, Capital, and Human Resources Freebie

Hello darlings!  Amy here from That Teaching Spark!  How do you make social studies come alive in your classroom?  It can be boring and stuffy, especially if you have to teach it using a terrible text book.  Thankfully Economics is one of those concepts that you can spice up!  There are so many real world applications!  Checkout Cassandra Hathaway's Lemonade Stand for example!

In my school, my entire grade level teaches Economics using a Carnival Theme.  At the end of our unit, students work in groups to create a real carnival booth in which they provide a good or service. My students absolutely LOVE it and it is something that they talk about when they come visit me.

Check out some booths below!

Teaching the Economics concepts to get students to this point is half the fun!  I'm including two free lesson ideas for teaching Natural, Capital, and Human Resources!

To teach this concept, we talk about ice cream and all the food, tools, and work needed to create it.  My kiddos love using the Interactive Smartboard Lesson because they get to manipulate the screen to find the answer!

Don't have smartnotebook?  No problem!  You can still use it on your projector with a mouse if you download the free Interactive Viewer Software from Smart Interactive Viewer
Next students use their knowledge to determine the Natural, Capital, and Human Resources needed to make a Hamburger!

If you would like to try the ECON CARNIVAL or just need some awesome lessons to teach your economics unit, go grab the unit below!

Have fun teaching social studies!

  1. Admiring the dedication you put into your site and in depth information you offer. It’s great to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed material. Wonderful read! I’ve saved your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account. https://www.avantushr.com/
